Village Health Partnership

In rural Ethiopia, one in every 10 women dies in childbirth. Of the mothers who survive, up to 40 percent suffer debilitating physical complications that can destroy the quality of their lives. Village Health Partnership collaborates with Ethiopian community leaders to provide sustainable community-based programs for safe delivery of newborns and the prevention and treatment of obstetric and gynecologic complications of childbirth in these communities.

With a vision of safe motherhood for all women, the work of Village Health Partnership is based on four values: human rights, community, partnership and sustainability:

  • Human Rights – safe motherhood is a woman’s right.
  • Community – programs are community based and community driven.
  • Partnership – resources are scarce, so it’s important to work in collaboration to make positive change.
  • Sustainability – supporting local economic development to ensure the ongoing provision of healthcare services.
